Cosmetics within the meaning of the Industrial Chemicals Notification and Assessment) Act 1989, fall within the scope of the National Industrial Chemicals Notification and Assessment Scheme (NICNAS) which is within the Department for Health and Aging. Information on the regulation of cosmetic products is available from the NICNAS website Cosmetics
All importers and manufacturers of industrial chemicals and importers of cosmetics for commercial purposes must now register with NICNAS, please refer to Registration
The Trade Practices (Consumer Product Information Standards ) ( Cosmetics) Regulations set out requirements concerning ingredient labelling information for cosmetic products. The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) enforces compliance with the regulations.
